The Detroit Lakes City Council has recently approved several significant projects aimed at enhancing community infrastructure and amenities.
West Lake Drive Upgrades
Phase 3 of the West Lake Drive street, utility, and trail project is set to commence this summer. The plan includes road and utility improvements, a new bike and walking trail, and enhanced beach and public spaces. As part of the preparation, 104 out of 159 trees in the project area will be removed, with 58 new trees to be planted. The city notes that many of the existing trees are overcrowded and declining in health. Salvageable wood from the removed trees will be reclaimed by a local organization for future community projects.
New City Pavilion
The Council has approved a resolution to seek proposals for architectural and design services for a new Detroit Lakes Pavilion. This initiative aims to provide a modern space for community events and gatherings, replacing the existing structure.
Washington Ballpark Improvements
Despite rising costs, the Council has approved the commencement of Phase 1 construction for Washington Ballpark. This project is part of a broader effort to upgrade local recreational facilities and provide enhanced amenities for residents and visitors.
